Eduard Sandler, head coach of Russian club PBC Dynamo Vladivostok, has died aged 44, the club has confirmed.
According to Russian media reports, Sandler lost control of his jet ski in the harbour near the Burny business centre. He reportedly suffered severe injuries after hitting rocks, and was pronounced dead before the ambulance arrived despite emergency services being called quickly.
Investigation under way
The Investigative Committee of Russia for Primorsky Krai said investigators and forensic experts worked at the scene of the crash and an investigation is underway.
His club issued a statement expressing grief over the sudden “irreplaceable loss”. The statement read: “This is an irreplaceable loss for the entire sports community of the Primorsky Krai region and for Russian basketball. Eduard Mikhailovich dedicated his life to the development of the sport, the nurturing of players, and the building of a strong system.”

“Thanks to his energy, character, and commitment, Dynamo achieved great success and significant victories,” the statement continued. “All who knew Eduard Mikhailovich will remember him as a man who loved basketball and the Primorsky Krai region with all his heart. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and all who share this profound loss.”
