Tampa Bay Buccaneers running backs coach Skip Peete collapsed during a practice session on Wednesday and was taken to hospital for urgent assessment. The incident occurred roughly 15 to 20 minutes into walk-throughs at the team's training ground.
Emergency services attended the scene, with the club confirming that team medical staff provided immediate care before transporting Peete to a nearby hospital. He was reported as responsive, coherent, and in stable condition. Head coach Todd Bowles later told journalists that Peete is 'doing fine.'
Initial assessments suggest the collapse was likely due to dehydration. Peete, 58, is the brother of former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete and the son of veteran running backs coach Willie Peete. He has been coaching running backs in the NFL since 1998, with previous stints at the Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Los Angeles Rams.
Now in his third season with the Buccaneers, Peete oversees a backfield featuring Bucky Irving and Rachaad White. In 2024, the unit averaged 5.2 yards per carry, with Irving rushing for 1,122 yards and eight touchdowns. The Buccaneers, who are 3-1 after a defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, are set to face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 5.
