Gundogan Eyes Coaching Return to Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan has expressed a desire to return to Manchester City in a coaching capacity after his playing career ends. The 35-year-old German midfielder, currently at Galatasaray, is one of the most decorated players in City's history, having won 14 major trophies across two spells under Pep Guardiola.

Gundogan, who captained City to a historic Treble in 2023, has already begun working towards his coaching badges. He stated that there is 'definitely potential' for a role at the Etihad, given the club's significance in his career. However, he ruled out joining the new management team immediately after Guardiola's expected departure this summer, with Enzo Maresca tipped as the successor.

The midfielder still has 12 months remaining on his Galatasaray contract and intends to play one more season before transitioning into coaching. 'This place has given me, as a player, everything I wanted. So why not try it also in a different role?' Gundogan said.
