Gundogan Targets Man City Return in Coaching Role

Ilkay Gundogan has expressed a strong desire to return to Manchester City in a coaching capacity once his playing days are over. The former City star, currently at Galatasaray, aims to continue playing beyond the age of 35 but is already planning his transition into management.

Gundogan's Coaching Ambitions

The 35-year-old German midfielder, who won 14 major trophies during two spells under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, has started his coaching badges and sees a potential role at City. "Of course, there's a chance," Gundogan said. "It depends on my own decisions and my drive after finishing my playing career. I feel like I still have a couple of really good years in me, but long-term, I've started my coaching badges and there's definitely potential to return to City in a different role."

Current Playing Situation

Gundogan still has 12 months remaining on his Galatasaray contract and hopes to play one more season with the Turkish club. He captained City to a historic Treble in 2023 and remains one of the most decorated players in the club's history. However, he has ruled out joining the new management team at City following Guardiola's expected departure, with Enzo Maresca tipped to take over as manager this summer.

Gundogan added: "This place has given me everything as a player, so why not try it also in a different role?" His comments underline his enduring connection to Manchester City and his ambition to contribute to the club's future success from the sidelines.
