In a move that could reshape the heavyweight boxing landscape, unified champion Oleksandr Usyk is in discussions with UFC chief Dana White about a potential switch to his new Zuffa Boxing venture.
Dialogue Opens for Blockbuster Signing
Usyk's camp manager, Sergey Lapin, has confirmed that contact has been established with White, who is launching his boxing promotion. "There is contact, there is dialogue, and interest exists [from Dana White and Zuffa Boxing]," Lapin told talkSPORT Bet Slot Site. While details remain confidential, Lapin hinted at a major shift, stating that if format, numbers, and timing align, "the market could see a move nobody expects."
The Ukrainian champion, who holds three of the four major world titles, is seen as a marquee signing that would immediately elevate Zuffa Boxing's profile. The promotion's first event is headlined by Callum Walsh this Friday in Las Vegas, and its biggest current signing is cruiserweight king Jai Opetaia. However, securing Usyk would be a monumental coup.
Wilder Fight and Other Opponents in the Mix
Parallel to the White negotiations, Usyk's team is also exploring a high-profile bout with former WBC champion Deontay Wilder. The pair have been linked to a potential July 11 showdown in San Francisco as part of iV Boxing's entry into the sport, which could draw a record crowd.
Lapin stressed that "no final decisions and nothing [is] signed at this moment" regarding Wilder, adding that they are calmly assessing the biggest options. "We are only considering the biggest and most logical options, fights that truly create an event, not just another name," he stated.
Another name on the shortlist is German heavyweight Agit Kabayel, praised by Lapin for his tricky style, pressure, and the significant commercial potential of a major European stadium fight.
The Dana White Factor and Future Implications
Lapin emphasised the unique appeal of partnering with Dana White, citing his proven track record of building the UFC into a global powerhouse. "His real power is packaging not just a fight, but an event. If he gets involved, the scale and attention immediately become different," Lapin noted.
This development comes after Usyk vacated his WBO title rather than face mandatory challenger Fabio Wardley. With several doors now open, the champion's next move is poised to be a major event, whether under the Zuffa banner, against Wilder, or another top contender. The boxing world awaits an official announcement, which will hinge on the alignment of belts, timing, dates, and broadcast structures.
