Inquest into Ricky Hatton's Death Begins Today

The full inquest into the death of boxing legend Ricky Hatton begins today, following calls from his manager for 'the truth' to be revealed. Hatton, 46, was found unresponsive at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on 14 September 2025.

A preliminary inquest in October 2025 gave a provisional cause of death as hanging, but senior coroner Alison Mutch will make the final determination at the official hearing on 20 March 2026. Manager Paul Speak, who discovered Hatton, has insisted the boxer did not intend to take his own life.

Speak told Boxing News magazine that he found Hatton after entering his home and hearing music from upstairs. 'I was in a state of shock and confusion and loss,' he said. Speak has highlighted that Hatton had planned numerous future trips, including taking his daughters to see Oasis, a holiday to Thailand, and a Christmas trip to Tenerife.

'He'd arranged to take his daughters to see Oasis next week. He was planning to go to Thailand for the WBC convention and a holiday after his fight,' Speak said. 'He'd just booked a flight to Tenerife for Christmas. I want to get the truth out, otherwise people will just speculate.'

Speak also refuted negative speculation about Hatton's family relationships, stating he had seen his mother recently and was planning to visit his father. 'His daughters had never seen him box, so he was excited for that. So many things for him to live for – he was in a really good place,' Speak added.

The inquest is expected to hear evidence from witnesses and medical experts before the coroner delivers a final conclusion on the cause of death.
