Television personality and dancer Jordan Banjo has publicly credited the sport of boxing with rescuing him from a significant decline in his physical and mental health, sharing a powerful side-by-side comparison of his dramatic body transformation.
From Downward Spiral to Discipline
The 32-year-old star, best known for winning the third series of Britain's Got Talent with his dance troupe Diversity in 2009, posted the inspiring snaps on Saturday. He contrasted a recent photo showcasing his newly ripped physique in the gym with a picture from 2023, where he is seen lying on a sofa with his then newborn third child, son Atreus, resting on his chest.
In a heartfelt caption accompanying the images, Banjo penned a simple 'thank you boxing'. He elaborated with a detailed message, explaining that after the birth of his son, he was "prioritising everything apart from my health." He confessed to being in a "downward spiral health wise since 2020" and lacking the motivation to halt it, despite career success.
The Wake-Up Call of the Ring
Banjo, who also appeared on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!, described how taking up boxing training provided a crucial wake-up call. "I've danced since I was 5," he wrote, noting he could often "blag" his way through. However, starting boxing at the age of 30 came with immediate consequences for not being physically and mentally prepared.
He reflected on the sport's profound impact, stating: "Since boxing, I’ve noticed a huge step up in my life in every aspect. From dancing, to my career to even being a dad." He emphasised the invaluable discipline and lessons learned, both good and bad, through his training.
A Message of Encouragement to Fans
The dancer's post served as a motivational message to his followers. He encouraged people not to become so fixated on future goals that they forget how far they've come. His advice was clear: "whatever you want to do, start right now, each day at a time."
Jordan shares three children—Cassius, six, Mayowa 'Mimi' Angel, five, and Atreus, two—with his wife, Naomi Courts. His group, Diversity, famously beat singer Susan Boyle to win the ITV talent show, launching them into the public eye.
