The boxing world is in mourning after a tragic car crash in Nigeria involving former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua claimed the lives of two of his close team members. The incident has prompted an outpouring of grief, led by Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn.

The Tragic Incident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The fatal collision occurred on the morning of Monday, 29 December 2025, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, just outside Lagos. Reports confirm that a black Lexus Jeep, carrying Anthony Joshua and several members of his team, collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck.

The crash resulted in the deaths of two men: Kevin Ayodele, also known as Latz, and Sina Ghami. Both were identified as close friends and integral members of Joshua's inner circle. The British boxer himself was rushed to a nearby hospital with what have been described as minor injuries. It is understood that two other men in the vehicle escaped physical harm.

Outpouring of Grief from the Boxing Community

Eddie Hearn, the Chairman of Matchroom Sport which promotes Joshua, was among the first to publicly pay tribute upon confirmation of the news. Sharing his condolences on Instagram, Hearn wrote a heartfelt message: "With the heaviest of hearts. Two great men. Rest in eternal peace Sina and Latz. My thoughts and deepest prayers are with everyone."

Fellow boxer Chris Eubank Jr also shared his reaction online, expressing relief for Joshua's survival and sorrow for the victims. "Thank god our heavyweight champ survived that horrible car crash," Eubank Jr stated. "And pray for the two fallen soldiers Latz and Sina and their families. I knew both...they were genuinely good men. Rest in Peace boys."

Further Tributes from Friends and Fighters

The tributes continued to flow from across the combat sports world. Misfits Boxing star Slim Albaher sent prayers, specifically remembering Latz: "I can't believe Latz was one of the guys involved...he was such a good soul and a supportive brother."

Fighter Mutah Beale offered religious condolences, saying, "From Allah we belong to Allah we return, sad and shocking news about the death of our dear brother Abdul-Latif... May Allah have mercy on him." An emotional message was also shared by OnestoplistDubai, recalling "nothing but good memories" and offering condolences to the family of Sina Ghami.
