Tyson Fury has announced his return to boxing in 2026, nearly a year after retiring following a second points loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024. The 37-year-old posted on Instagram: '2026 is that year. Return of the mac. Been away for a while but I’m back now.'
Fury, who has a history of retiring and then reversing his decision, had previously said he was finished after losing to Usyk. However, speculation grew over the festive period as he shared training clips on social media. A long-awaited bout with Anthony Joshua has been repeatedly linked, but Joshua's recent car crash in Nigeria has left his future uncertain.
If Joshua is unavailable, Fury could pursue a trilogy fight with Usyk or an all-British contest with WBO champion Fabio Wardley. However, Wardley has dismissed Fury's title hopes, stating that Fury is not ready for a fight of that magnitude. A win over either opponent would make Fury a three-time world heavyweight champion.
