Campbell Hatton Announces Emotional Boxing Comeback in Dubai Tribute to Late Father

Campbell Hatton, the son of the revered British boxing champion Ricky Hatton, has confirmed a poignant return to the sport after retiring last year. The 25-year-old lightweight will step back into the ring for a special fight night in Dubai, dedicated to honouring the monumental legacy of his father, who tragically took his own life in September 2023.

A Family Affair in the Gulf State

Campbell initially retired from professional boxing in July 2023 following consecutive defeats to rival Jack Finch. However, he revealed that he will make his comeback ten months later as part of the 'Destiny in the Desert' event in Dubai on April 11. This card was originally intended to feature Ricky Hatton's own comeback fight against Eisa Al Dah, but Al Dah will now face Kell Brook instead. In a touching twist, Hatton's family members will now grace the undercard, transforming it into a heartfelt tribute.

Campbell expressed his motivation, stating he is 'looking forward to getting back in the ring in memory of my dad out in Dubai'. He will be joined by his cousins, Jack and Lola Hatton, who are the children of Ricky's brother Matthew. Jack, a promising 17-year-old amateur boxer, and his younger sister Lola, who trains alongside him at Matthew's gym in Manchester, are both set to participate, making it a true family endeavour.

Family Members Share Their Excitement and Dedication

Lola Hatton shared her enthusiasm on social media, posting: 'Buzzing to say I’m fighting on the Kell Brook undercard over in Dubai, representing team Manchester and the Ricky Hatton Foundation.' Jack also conveyed his anticipation, writing: 'Big opportunity for me, I will be fighting on the undercard of Kell Brook versus Eisa Aldah in Dubai. It will be a great experience, ready to show them what I can do on a big night.'

This event serves as a powerful homage to Ricky Hatton, whose impact on boxing and his family remains profound. In the aftermath of his father's death, Campbell shared that the family was taking 'one day at a time' after their shocking loss. Before Ricky's funeral, Campbell paid a moving tribute, revealing that his father called him his 'mini-Me' and highlighting their close bond.

Personal Reflections and New Beginnings

Campbell reflected on their relationship, saying: 'We had so many plans coming up, so it has knocked us for six, but obviously, we are trying to be there for each other. The outpouring of support from absolutely everyone has been amazing, so that's helping us through a lot – but yes, absolutely heartbroken.' He added, 'He used to call me his little Mini-Me. We were identical in so many ways, and I think it's shown through how close we were and the banter we had with each other. To so many, he was Ricky Hatton the boxer, but to me, he was just my dad, and to the family, it was Richard. We just can't get our heads round it at the minute.'

In a positive turn, Campbell is believed to have found love with Brooke Heaton, the daughter of his late father's best friend, Simon Heaton. The couple took their relationship public just after Christmas, enjoying a trip away over the New Year with members of the Hatton family. They also spent time together during the festive period and attended a Manchester City match, a club both Campbell and Ricky passionately supported.

Connections to Ricky Hatton's Legacy

Simon Heaton, a non-league football manager, appeared in the 2023 documentary film 'Hatton', where he and other close friends reminisced about Ricky's early sporting talents. Heaton recalled, 'You'd be upstairs in the pub and you'd just hear "bang... bang". "What's that noise?" It would be Ricky downstairs banging the [punch] bags.' He also praised Hatton's footballing abilities as a youth, though boxing ultimately became his calling.

This Dubai fight night not only marks Campbell Hatton's return to boxing but also symbolizes a family's resilience and dedication to preserving Ricky Hatton's enduring spirit in the sport he loved.
