British boxing superstar Anthony Joshua is recovering in a plush Nigerian hospital following a devastating car crash that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members.
The Tragic Accident and Immediate Aftermath
The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion was the sole survivor of a collision in Nigeria's Ogun State on Monday, 30 December 2025. The accident tragically killed his friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin 'Latif' Ayodele. Joshua, who was seated in the passenger seat, escaped the most severe impacts but sustained injuries requiring hospitalisation.
He was swiftly transported to the Duchess International Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos. His promotion company, Matchroom Boxing, has confirmed he remains in "stable condition" after being admitted for essential checks and treatment. His mother, Yeta Odusanya, has travelled to be at his bedside.
Inside the Luxurious Duchess International Hospital
Joshua is recuperating in what is widely regarded as one of Nigeria's premier medical facilities. The Duchess International Hospital, which opened in 2020, markets itself as a state-of-the-art, 100-bed centre providing comprehensive primary to tertiary care.
The hospital's interior showcases extreme luxury, with marble flooring, wood panelling, and high-end Chanel furnishings. Patient accommodation is centred around its Royal Suites, where stays are far from modest.
The most basic package begins at £2,000 per person. These suites feature a separate lounge, an ensuite bedroom, and amenities for guests. The hospital prides itself on a highly personalised service, tailoring complex care to individual needs.
A Five-Star Medical Experience
Beyond medical care, the facility offers a hotel-like experience. A key feature of the service is its catering; patients are provided with three-course meals prepared to their specific tastes, available 24 hours a day.
Photos from the hospital's website and social media, dubbed 'Duchess TV', illustrate the opulence, from monogrammed towels to rooms described as larger than some apartments. The environment is a stark contrast to typical clinical settings, designed for comfort and discretion for its high-profile clientele.
As Joshua continues his recovery in this exclusive setting, the boxing world and fans globally have sent messages of support, while investigations into the cause of the fatal crash continue.
