Wuhan Open prize money: Kartal's potential final earnings

Sonay Kartal is set to compete in the Wuhan Open final on Sunday, where she could claim a £500,000 ($665,000) payday and 1,000 WTA ranking points if she defeats Poland's Maja Chwalinska.

Total prize pot and potential winnings

The Wuhan Open, a WTA 1000 tournament, concludes on Sunday with a total prize pot of just over £3million ($4m), distributed across both the singles and doubles draws.

If Britain's Kartal secures victory in the final, the top prize of £500,000 ($665,000) would surpass her total prize money for the year so far, which currently stands at £245,401 ($326,298).

Runner-up and semi-final earnings

Even if Kartal falls short, the losing finalist will receive £289,550 ($385,001), more than doubling her 2026 prize money.

Before her semi-final clash against Jelena Ostapenko, world No.170 Kartal had already guaranteed around £148,000 ($197,000) for reaching the final four of the event.

Route to the final and career titles

Kartal has knocked out top players including Anhelina Kalinina, Belinda Bencic, Jasmine Paolini, Elina Svitolina and Jelena Ostapenko on her way to the final. Her only previous career singles title came at the WTA 250 Jasmin Open in 2024.

The final against Chwalinska is set to take place on Sunday, October 18, with the match scheduled to begin at 11.30am UK time.
