Champion jump jockey Sean Bowen has posted a shocking picture showing the result of his first day back from a two-week break in the National Hunt campaign.
Fall at Perth
The 28-year-old has ridden 51 winners and trails former champion Harry Skelton by 15 wins at this early stage in the season. Bowen was back in action at Perth on Saturday when his first ride was Tamarind Bay, trained by brother Mickey, was the 6-5 favourite for the novices handicap chase.
Tamarind Bay looked well placed to make it three wins out of three over fences, holding second place, when he made a mistake at the third last fence, unseating Bowen who fell heavily.
Injury and Recovery
Bowen gave up his later ride on the card on Shantou Show because he was injured. His next booked rides are on Wednesday at Worcester.
However on Sunday night he posted a photograph of the damage the fall had caused to his face. The post came with a warning with X used told, 'Content warning: graphic content. X labelled this post as containing graphic content'.
Bowen's Reaction
Bowen said: "First day back from the summer break: kicked in the face & a lovely 14 hour round trip…come racing. It's lucky I love my job."
The picture revealed he had scratches on his face and his mouth had been stitched around his top lip where the kick had landed.
Fan Reactions
Fans reacted in horror with one commenting, "F****** hell lad that's some whack…get well soon." Another said: "Ouch that looks seriously painful Sean but thank goodness you made it home in one piece." While another message said: "Jeez the horse didn't miss you. Speedy recovery."
