Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson ran a British record of 1:54.33 in the women's 800m at the Stockholm Diamond League on Sunday, but was beaten by Switzerland's Audrey Werro, who clocked 1:53.98 – the third fastest time in history and a Diamond League record.
Werro, 22, powered past Hodgkinson in the final 200 metres to secure victory, adding to her win in Rabat last month. Hodgkinson's time surpassed her own British record of 1:54.61 set in 2024, but she fell short of Jarmila Kratochvilova's 43-year-old world record of 1:53.28.
In the men's pole vault, world record holder Armand Duplantis suffered a rare defeat, failing to clear 6.05m and finishing second with 5.80m. Australia's Kurtis Marschall won his first Diamond League event with a clearance of 5.90m.
Britain's Amy Hunt set a personal best of 10.97 seconds in the women's 100m, her first sub-11 time, finishing second behind American world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden (10.84).
Hodgkinson had opened her outdoor season with a 400m personal best of 51.14 seconds in Rome on Thursday. She aims to break Kratochvilova's outdoor world record this season after smashing the indoor 800m world record in February.
