Keely Hodgkinson moved a step closer to the £111,000 prize after storming into the final of the World Athletics Ultimate Championship 800m, while her rival Veronica Vancardo endured a painful moment.
Dominant run into the final
Hodgkinson powered into the final in 1 minute 57.57 seconds, nearly one full second faster than second-placed Addison Wiley, who finished in 1 minute 58.14 seconds.
The race, however, proved painful for Vancardo, who suffered a heavy-looking fall heading into the final 50 metres.
Hodgkinson's reaction
After booking her place in tomorrow's final, Hodgkinson made a tongue-in-cheek comment about Vancardo's stumble. Speaking to BBC Sport, she said: "This season we've had a fair share of people falling over, but she's still got all her teeth so she'll be ok."
She added: "That's one of my worst nightmares, touchwood it hasn't happened to me so far. It's part of racing unfortunately."
Looking ahead to the final
When asked about her own display, Hodgkinson said: "I'm happy with that, I'm glad to be back running. It was a lot of fun."
She added: "It's been a month since I last raced so it's nice to get that run out through the legs, hopefully go a bit better tomorrow."
