Thousands of runners took part in Sunday's Cardiff Half Marathon, with a number of familiar faces from sport, TV and social media taking on the course. Among them, former Wales footballer and current Oxford United boss Aaron Ramsey recorded the most impressive celebrity time, finishing in 1:22:09.
Welsh rugby stars among the finishers
Several names from Welsh rugby also took part. Shane Williams was the top performer among them, finishing in 1:29:56, while Gareth Thomas, a regular competitor in the race, crossed the line in 1:50:09. Adam Jones completed his first ever half marathon in 2:34:10, raising money for St David's Hospice Care and Prostate Cymru.
The 45-year-old Jones only took up running after completing the Couch to 5K programme, which he believed would help improve his fitness. Former Wales centre Allan Bateman clocked in at 2:15:40.
TV personalities and politicians on the course
Broadcaster Phil Steele finished in 2:36:18 at the age of 65, joined by other TV stars including Love Island's Liam Reardon, who completed the race in 1:57:45. BBC weather presenter Sue Charles came in with a time of 2:07:20.
Helen Thorn, an award-winning comedian, podcaster and Sunday Times-bestselling author, also crossed the finish line in 2:56:46. Politician Heledd Fychan finished in 3:21:31, while Owen Peddle, who became a social media sensation after going from 23 stone to finishing the Swansea Ironman, completed the race in 1:59:28.
Elite winners and tragic news
In the men's race, Kenya's Gideon Kiprotich won in 59:34, holding off 2025 champion Yismaw Dillu. In the women's event, Joyciline Jepkosgei completed a Kenyan double, taking 12 seconds off Edith Chelimo's course record, which had stood since 2017, with a winning time of 1:05:40.
On Monday, the tragic news was announced that one runner died during the event.
