Boxer Big Stacks, real name Charlie Robert, spent more than six years in prison for viciously attacking a rival gang member with a baseball bat.
Big Stacks has made a name for himself as the self-proclaimed 'Hardest Man in the UK' and made his boxing debut earlier this year. He returns to the ring tonight when he takes on rapper Jordan McCann in Newcastle, having attempted to turn his life around following his criminal past, including a long stretch inside.
Attack Details
"I was involved in gangs and I had beef with some other drug dealer," he said. "He's pulled up on me with a baseball bat and tried doing me with the bat, dropped the bat, drove off. We chased after him but couldn't get him. I thought I'd been set up so in my head, I'm thinking, 'How the f*** did this other geezer know who was there at the same time?'"
"So we've called the geezer who I was going to meet for a drug deal, and said, 'Yeah, come now' and obviously I just battered him. I could've got it wrong. In my head, I did get it wrong, but that night, I thought he genuinely set me up. I was intoxicated, just jumped out, battered the kid. Obviously I regret it now but he was left in a bad way. I broke his kneecap and fractured his skull. He was in a wheelchair and couldn't walk for a long time."
Turning His Life Around
Big Stacks was first locked up at the age of 12 but insists he has turned a corner since being released from his 12-year sentence. "I've come a long way from that, you know what I mean? Obviously shouldn't have happened. It was like an altercation that probably shouldn't have happened."
"I do feel bad, but it's over now. I've done my sentence, I've come out, I'm positive now, and I want to do good for the world. So it is what it is. I started getting on gym courses, started reading books, started just relaxing a bit. And then I wanted to change and sort myself out."
