The Papua New Guinea swimming team, competing in the Commonwealth Games, headed to Glasgow's Barras Market for IRN-BRU-themed activities shortly after their qualifying heats at Tollcross International Swimming Centre on Sunday, July 26.
Urban Challenges at the Barras
The team took part in three urban challenges set up by IRN-BRU: a 10-metre bus sprint along an orange track aiming to beat the number 61 service in under 1.7 seconds; Bin Ball, where participants scored empty IRN-BRU cans into an orange and blue bin through a 3-metre-high hoop; and a 20kg barbell bag lifting challenge, with the weight made up of IRN-BRU cans.
Thousands Join the Fun
Over 2,000 people of all ages attended over the weekend to demonstrate their strength and endurance, celebrating the sporting spirit in the city. Among the notable participants were Scots singer Josef and former England rugby international and pundit David Flatman.
Prizes and Promotion
Each competitor received an ice-cold can of IRN-BRU, and some lucky winners took home an iconic 'Made in Scotland From Girders' t-shirt. Kenny Nicholson, Director of Brand at IRN-BRU, said: “Glasgow is welcoming some of the best sporting talent in the world this summer, but we wanted to champion athletes closer to home too; those people who show up with feats of endurance, strength and a whole lot of girders in the everyday.”
