Australia's Lani Pallister produced a stunning performance to beat American great Katie Ledecky in the women's 1500m freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships on day three in Los Angeles.

Pallister, 24, touched the wall in a personal best time of 15:32.06, finishing more than three seconds ahead of Ledecky, who clocked 15:35.25. The win marked the first time Ledecky had been beaten in a major international 1500m final since 2014.
Pallister's time was the second-fastest in Australian history, behind only the national record set by Lauren Boyle in 2014.
Reaction
"I'm in shock," Pallister said. "I knew I was in good shape but I didn't expect that. To beat Katie is something I've dreamed of since I was a kid."
Ledecky, who had won the event at the previous three Pan Pacs, was gracious in defeat. "Lani swam a great race," she said. "She deserved it."
Other results
Australia also won gold in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay, with the team of Kyle Chalmers, Zac Incerti, Flynn Southam and Jack Cartwright finishing ahead of the United States.
Meanwhile, Japan's Rikako Ikee took the women's 100m butterfly, and American Ryan Murphy won the men's 100m backstroke.
The championships continue through the weekend, with more finals scheduled on Sunday.
