Adam Ramsay-Peaty, formerly known as Adam Peaty, surprised his father-in-law Gordon Ramsay by adopting his wife Holly's surname before their wedding. The couple, who married at the end of last year, are now expecting a baby.
Wedding Surprise
The swimmer informed Gordon and his wife Tana of the name change the night before the December ceremony. Gordon later said: "They told us the night before the wedding. I was lost for words. A wonderful suggestion. Very modern."
Family Rift
Ramsay-Peaty's marriage came amid a rift with his own family, particularly his estranged mother. Gordon denied claims that the swimmer's parents were deliberately excluded from the wedding, saying: "It's all self-inflicted from their side... We sent a chauffeur-driven car for them to come to the engagement party and treated them like royalty."
Commonwealth Games Performance
At this summer's Commonwealth Games, Ramsay-Peaty won two bronze medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke. He sparked debate by saying he "works a lot harder than what it says on the scoreboard" and that the medals are "just a piece of metal" that only Olympic ones matter to him.
He alluded to personal troubles, saying: "It's hard because I know how hard I've worked. I know the s**t I've been through, which is no fault of my own. It does take a toll."
