Vitor Pereira has expressed shock at his sudden dismissal as Nottingham Forest head coach, stating the decision came as a "complete surprise" and without any prior warning. The Portuguese manager released a statement confirming his departure, which was triggered by a break clause in his contract that expired in June.
Pereira's Tenure and Achievements
Pereira signed an 18-month contract with Forest in February and successfully guided the club to Premier League survival, securing a fifth consecutive season in the top flight. He also led the team to the Europa League semi-finals. During his 20 matches in charge, he won eight games. Before joining Forest, Pereira had kept Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League the previous season.
Despite his achievements, Forest informed Pereira they wished to pursue a different direction as the break clause approached. The manager had been actively planning for the new campaign, including pre-season preparations and participating in player recruitment meetings.
Potential Replacement and Club Response
Reports indicate that Oliver Glasner, who left Crystal Palace at the end of last season, is set to take over at Forest. Glasner previously won the FA Cup in the 2024-25 season and the Conference League title a year later. The club declined to comment when contacted by the PA news agency.
Pereira's dismissal has raised questions about the club's long-term strategy, especially given his success in stabilizing the team. The decision is seen as a significant shift for Forest as they prepare for the upcoming season.
