Zara Tindall, who turns 45 today, has been quietly carving out a unique role within the Royal Family, thanks to her cousin Prince William. For three consecutive years, she has assisted William in hosting garden parties at Buckingham Palace, the most recent of which took place last week.
Despite being the daughter of Princess Anne and a niece to King Charles III, Zara holds no royal title, a decision made by her mother at birth. This has allowed her to pursue a successful equestrian career and maintain a civilian life. However, her close bond with the royal family means she regularly attends major events, including Christmas at Sandringham.
Royal expert Jennie Bond explained why Zara keeps being invited back: “Let’s face it: Zara has nailed it. She seems to have a wonderful life with a husband she adores, three gorgeous children, freedom to earn a very good living - and a wonderfully warm relationship with her royal relatives.” Bond added that Zara brings a relaxed sense of fun to every conversation and is a natural beauty.
Zara’s role at the garden parties involves standing behind William during the national anthem and greeting guests. Alongside her husband Mike, she has managed to attend high-profile royal events while continuing her equestrian career and sponsorship deals with brands like Rolex.
Despite her popularity, Bond does not foresee Zara becoming a full-time working royal. “Why would she want the restrictions that would be imposed when she has such a great balance between lucrative work opportunities and the glamour of being part of one of the most famous families in the world?” Bond said, noting that Zara is grateful to her mother for refusing a title.
