Vice President JD Vance has publicly responded to criticism from podcaster Joe Rogan, who recently labeled supporters of the Make America Great Again movement as "dorks" and "unintelligent people." During a Saturday appearance on "The Benny Show," hosted by conservative commentator Benny Johnson, Vance addressed Rogan's remarks with a mix of humor and defiance.
Vance's Dismissive Response to Rogan's Claims
When asked by Johnson to comment on Rogan's characterization, Vance laughed off the critique, reinforcing his unwavering support for the MAGA base. "I think we have many, many fewer dorks than the far left, but everybody's got some dorks," Vance stated. He emphasized inclusivity within the movement, adding, "We love our dorks. We love our cool kids. We love anybody who wants to save the country."
Rogan's Escalating Criticism of MAGA and Trump
Rogan's comments were made on his highly popular podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience," which consistently ranks as the most listened-to podcast in the United States according to Spotify data. On a recent episode, Rogan expressed frustration with the MAGA movement, stating, "That phrase sucks ... Make America Great Again, and then it becomes a movement of a bunch of f**king dorks because a lot of them are dorks."
He elaborated further, describing some supporters as "really weird, f**king uninteresting, unintelligent people that have got something they cling to," while acknowledging that others are "real genuine patriots." Rogan's critique marks a significant shift from his initial endorsement of Donald Trump during the 2024 election, as he has increasingly distanced himself from the former president's administration over the past year.
Policy Disagreements Fuel Rogan's Disillusionment
Rogan has publicly challenged several key aspects of Trump's agenda, including immigration enforcement policies, military actions against Iran, and the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. He criticized the aggressiveness of immigration raids, arguing they often targeted individuals without serious criminal records and oversimplified a complex issue.
Regarding Trump's military actions in Iran, Rogan told independent journalist Michael Shellenberger, "It just seems so insane based on what he ran on. I mean, this is why a lot of people feel betrayed, right? He ran on 'No more wars, end these stupid, senseless wars,' and then we have one that we can't even really clearly define why we did it."
Vance's Rebuttal on Immigration Claims
During the same interview with Benny Johnson, Vance also addressed Rogan's claim that former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were "better at deporting illegals" than Trump. Vance firmly rejected this assertion, stating, "Joe is wrong on this. I'm going to text Joe, because that is definitely wrong." This response highlights the ongoing policy debates between Rogan and Trump allies like Vance.
The exchange underscores the evolving political landscape as influential media figures like Rogan reassess their support for Trump and the MAGA movement, while staunch defenders like Vance continue to champion the cause and its supporters against mounting criticism.
