US Rep Jim Baird and Wife Hospitalised After Car Crash

US Representative Jim Baird and his wife have been hospitalised following a car crash, President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday. Speaking to Republican members at the Kennedy Center, Trump said the couple had been involved in a 'pretty bad' accident but were expected to recover.

Baird, who represents west central Indiana, was first elected to Congress in 2019. He is 80 years old. A statement from his office said: 'Congressman Baird is in the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, and he is extraordinarily grateful for everyone's prayers during this time.'

The statement added that Baird 'looks forward to continuing his work on behalf of Hoosiers.' The accident comes as Republicans in Washington mourn the death of Representative Doug LaMalfa of California, who died earlier this week.

The party's narrow majority in the House has been further reduced by the resignation of Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, leaving them with a 218–213 advantage over Democrats. In 2022, another Indiana Republican representative, Jackie Walorski, was killed in a head-on vehicle collision in her district.
