The White House has unveiled images of a limited-edition US passport featuring a portrait of President Donald Trump to mark America's 250th anniversary. The 'patriot passport' will be issued from July 2026 at the Washington Passport Agency while stocks last.
The passport displays a three-quarter-length photograph of Trump leaning over the Resolute desk with clenched fists, taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok. The image is surrounded by text from the Declaration of Independence, with Trump's signature and 'United States of America' underneath.
The facing page shows the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration, based on a painting by John Trumbull. The back cover bears a gold 'Freedom 250' flag. The design replaces an earlier stern headshot with the new portrait, which also features in the Smithsonian's presidents exhibition.
Democrats have criticised the plans. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden called for the halt of a commemorative gold coin bearing the same image and the words 'FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT', linking to an assassination attempt on Trump. They argued the coin was 'more befitting a monarchy than a democracy'.
