Donald Trump and his allies have argued that their lawsuits challenging the 2020 election results would succeed if only judges would hear the cases. However, judges have heard the cases and have been among the harshest critics of the legal arguments, often dismissing them with scathing language. This has been true regardless of whether the judge was appointed by a Democrat or a Republican, including those appointed by Trump himself.
On Monday, US District Judge Linda Parker threw out a lawsuit challenging Michigan's election results, saying the case embodied the phrase 'This ship has sailed.' The lawsuit, filed after the state certified results for Joe Biden, alleged a massive Democrat-run conspiracy to shift the results. Parker noted that the plaintiffs asked the court to ignore the will of millions of voters, which she said she could not and would not do.
In Georgia, US District Judge Timothy Batten dismissed a lawsuit filed by attorney Sidney Powell, who was dropped from Trump's legal team. The suit claimed widespread fraud, but Batten said it sought 'perhaps the most extraordinary relief ever sought in any federal court in connection with an election.' He refused to substitute the court's judgment for that of the 2.5 million Georgia voters who voted for Biden.
Out of roughly 50 lawsuits filed by Trump and his allies, more than 35 have been dropped or dismissed. Trump has also moved to directly appeal to lawmakers, but his efforts have been rebuffed. He brought Michigan lawmakers to the White House and phoned Georgia's governor, but both refused to overturn the results. The US Supreme Court was expected to weigh in on a case from Pennsylvania.
