Elon Musk has escalated his feud with the Trump administration by unfollowing White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller on X, according to tracker Big Tech Alert. The Tesla owner also unfollowed Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, signalling a growing rift with the president's inner circle.
The billionaire has spent days criticising Trump and the Republican-backed Big Beautiful Bill Act. On Thursday, Musk posted that the Jeffrey Epstein files remain unreleased because Trump is featured in them, and claimed that without his help, Trump would not have won the 2024 election.
Trump responded by suggesting Musk may have 'Trump Derangement Syndrome,' to which Musk replied with a video of the comment, accusing the president of 'such ingratitude.' Trump later said Musk was upset because the bill removed electric vehicle subsidies and because he did not appoint Musk's preferred candidate, Jared Isaacman, to lead NASA.
The unfollowing of Miller is notable because Miller's wife, Katie Miller, recently left her role as DOGE spokeswoman and now works directly for Musk handling press. Musk and Stephen Miller have traded barbs on X over the bill, which Musk has urged Republicans to oppose in the midterms.
Musk wrote cryptically on X: 'Trump has 3.5 years left as President, but I will be around for 40+ years.' The once-warm relationship between the two men has soured sharply since Musk poured time and money into Trump's 2024 campaign.
