Donald Trump's campaign manager, Karoline Leavitt, has launched a scathing attack on Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, accusing her of failing to ensure adequate security for the former president's upcoming rally in the capital.
In a fiery statement, Leavitt claimed that Bowser's administration had not taken the necessary precautions to protect attendees at the event, which is expected to draw thousands of Trump supporters. "Mayor Bowser has a responsibility to keep all citizens safe, yet her inaction suggests otherwise," Leavitt said.
Security Concerns Escalate
The remarks come amid heightened tensions surrounding Trump's return to Washington, where he is set to deliver a speech that political analysts predict will be highly contentious. Security preparations have been under scrutiny following previous violent incidents at Trump rallies.
Bowser's office has yet to respond publicly to Leavitt's accusations, but sources close to the mayor suggest she is "confident" in the security measures in place.
A History of Conflict
This isn't the first time Trump's team has clashed with Bowser. During his presidency, the two frequently sparred over various issues, including pandemic response and federal intervention in local affairs.
Political commentators warn that this latest exchange could further polarise an already divided electorate as the next election cycle approaches.
