Singer PinkPantheress has revealed she was prevented from appearing on the BBC quiz show Pointless because producers deemed her too famous. The 25-year-old, whose real name is Victoria Walker, made the admission during a show in Manchester, explaining that she had reached the final stage before broadcast when she was stopped.
Speaking to fans, she said: 'Pointless is my favourite trivia show, and I wanted to be on the show, and I made it to before they put you on TV at the last stage. I was in Manchester, I was ready to go on TV to play Pointless. Then someone comes in, and he goes, wait, hold on – we know who you are.' She added that it was a regular edition rather than the celebrity version, and that she was told: 'You're too famous to be on Pointless.'
The popstar, known for hits such as Boy's a Liar and Just for Me, said she had been willing to donate any winnings to charity and expressed a strong desire to meet presenter Alexander Armstrong, who has hosted the show for nearly two decades. She joked that she would go to the BBC and demand to be allowed on the programme.
Her comments prompted an outpouring of support on social media, with fans calling for her to appear on Pointless and other game shows. One supporter wrote that she should be 'allowed on every British game/quiz show, no matter how famous she gets', while others suggested she would be a good fit for The Chase, Taskmaster, or The Traitors.
Although she missed out on Pointless, PinkPantheress has previously taken part in another quiz show, appearing on the celebrity version of The Weakest Link earlier this year. She made it to the sixth round before being voted off, with singer Gareth Malone ultimately winning the episode.
