Plans for 51 holiday lodges near a marina in Swindon, Dudley, have been rejected by a planning inspector. The marina, approved over a decade ago, is currently under construction.
South Staffordshire Council objected to the expansion, arguing the lodges would harm the Green Belt. The inspector, Samuel Watson, ruled they would have an "unacceptable impact on the openness of the Green Belt."
The original marina plans, for 199 berths, faced over 130 objections but were passed. The applicant claimed the lodges would be "high quality and green principled," boosting tourism. However, the council rejected them last year, and the appeal failed.
Inspector Watson stated the lodges' siting and scale relative to the marina would harm the Green Belt's openness.
