Prime Minister Keir Starmer has accused Elon Musk of attempting to stir up division in Britain following the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak. The billionaire owner of X (formerly Twitter) was criticised for interfering in British politics once again, as tensions rise over the police response to the tragic incident.
Starmer's Condemnation
Speaking on Thursday, Starmer said: 'We need to also assert who we are as a country, because Musk, again, has been interfering in our politics in the last few days, trying to whip up division, that is not who we are in Britain. In Britain, we are reasonable, tolerant people. When we have a terrible case like Henry’s case, we react calmly as his family have done.'
The Prime Minister’s remarks come after bodycam footage revealed that officers handcuffed the teenager as he lay dying. The attacker, 23-year-old Sikh man Vickrum Digwa, had falsely claimed he was racially abused by the student.
Political Exploitation
The case has also been seized upon by Nigel Farage, who Starmer accused of exploiting the tragedy for political gain. The PM’s comments highlight growing concerns over the role of social media influencers and political figures in amplifying divisive narratives around sensitive cases.
