Spencer Pratt Boosts Security After Death Threats in LA Race

Spencer Pratt has increased his security team after receiving death threats related to his Los Angeles mayoral campaign, amid growing scrutiny over his living situation. The 42-year-old reality star is currently battling incumbent Karen Bass and city councilwoman Nithya Raman in a contentious race to lead the city.

Security Team Confirms Credible Threats

In an exclusive statement to the Daily Mail, Pratt's head of security confirmed that the candidate has received 'credible threats' on his life. 'In response, we have increased and adjusted his security detail accordingly. We are also working closely with the LAPD to ensure the ongoing safety of Spencer and his family,' the statement read. 'I will not be providing any further details. Our sole focus is the protection of Spencer and his loved ones — not feeding tabloid speculation.'

Pratt's team also confirmed that he has been in contact with the Los Angeles Police Department regarding the threats. The father of two filed an official report with the LAPD after the threats emerged.

Controversy Over Living Arrangements

Pratt's campaign sparked controversy last week after TMZ reported that he has been staying at the luxurious Hotel Bel-Air. This contradicted his earlier claim in a campaign ad that he had been living in an Airstream trailer after his $3 million home burned down in the Palisades wildfires last year. The trailer is reportedly empty, as his pop star wife Heidi Montag and their two children are staying in Carpinteria, California, while Pratt has been based in Los Angeles for campaigning.

After the story broke, Pratt responded on X: 'Hey guys, why don’t they wanna talk about why I need a hotel in the first place? Karen Bass let my home burn down. Also 6,000 of my neighbors. NBD.' He later told TMZ that the trailer was not suitable for his safety, but the hotel has 'its own armed security and that has become the only option.'

Threats from Rival Supporters

Referring to supporters of his rivals as 'Bassholes and Ramaniacs', Pratt said he has faced death threats from 'whackos.' 'Since I destroyed them in the debate and am surging in the polls, they are getting increasingly desperate and hostile,' he added. Pratt was widely praised for his performance in a televised debate against Bass and Raman on May 6, with about 90 percent of viewers declaring him the winner, according to an NBC Los Angeles poll.

Pratt, best known for appearing on The Hills, said he is 'an angry Angeleno running to get LA to be the number one city.' He has frequently criticized Bass over her handling of the LA wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes, including his $3.8 million property, in January 2025.

Political Stance and Endorsement Rumors

During the debate, Pratt joked he would rather face only Raman in the election. 'All the unions support Mayor Bass. You think it's easier to run against the incumbent mayor with all the unions, or a random city council member who has been a failure for six years?' He has also highlighted high levels of drug use and homelessness in LA, promising a three-week 'grace period' to warn criminals, drug users, and homeless people to leave the city.

On Saturday, gossip columnist Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice Substack blog claimed that Donald Trump could be considering endorsing Pratt, who is a registered Republican but running as an Independent. However, Pratt insisted he 'does not represent a party' after being labeled a 'MAGA Republican' by Raman, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. 'I represent all of Los Angeles,' he told NBC Los Angeles. 'I don't have a campaign manager. I don't have campaign consultants. There's no political party backing me.'

Family Life

As Pratt campaigns, his wife Heidi Montag has been busy rehearsing for her performance at the Neon Skies Festival in Canada on July 18, alongside Kesha and Slayyyter. She is also working on her third album, Masterpiece, due out in August.
