The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has summoned all 42 SPFL clubs to a summit at St Andrews on September 4, describing the meeting as "critically important" for the future of the national game.
The summit comes after Scotland's early exit from the World Cup, where they failed to progress from the group stage despite qualifying for the first time since 1998. Manager Steve Clarke stepped down minutes after the elimination was confirmed, ending his seven-year tenure.
Scottish football has also faced scrutiny over the limited opportunities given to young homegrown players. In the opening Premiership match of the season between Dundee United and Rangers at Tannadice, only two Scottish players started.
Meeting objectives
The meeting will be chaired by SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mullholland. According to an email shared with BBC Scotland, the agenda includes discussing "opportunities" around homegrown talent and hearing from clubs that have "optimised their elite talent development model".
The email also states that the objective is to focus on the "current reality" facing Scottish football. The SFA has not yet confirmed who will succeed Steve Clarke as national team head coach.
Upcoming fixtures
Scotland return to action next month with Nations League B fixtures against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia, scheduled across two weeks from late September into early October.
