Senate Rejects Trump's $1B Ballroom and $1.8B Slush Fund in Budget Bill
Senate Rejects Trump's Ballroom and Slush Fund

The Senate has formally rejected two major funding priorities proposed by President Donald Trump for the upcoming budget reconciliation bill. The rejected items include $1 billion designated for a White House ballroom and a controversial $1.776 billion 'weaponization fund.'

Weaponization Fund Draws Fire

The so-called 'weaponization fund' faced intense criticism from several Senate Republicans, who labelled it a 'slush fund' intended to provide financial payouts to individuals prosecuted by the Department of Justice, including those involved in the January 6 Capitol riot. The rejection followed a heated confrontation with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and strong opposition from key figures such as Mitch McConnell.

Path Cleared for Immigration Funding

With these contentious elements removed, the path is now clearer for the $72 billion package aimed at funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) through 2029. However, some senators are still pushing for additional legislative restrictions before the bill can proceed.
