Real Madrid are planning a major squad overhaul following a disastrous season, with Trent Alexander-Arnold facing increased competition for his place. The Spanish giants endured two consecutive trophy-less campaigns, leading to the dismissal of manager Xabi Alonso in January and his replacement Alvaro Arbeloa at the end of the season.
According to Spanish publication Marca, club president Florentino Perez is plotting at least five changes to the starting line-up, focusing on defence and midfield. The club has already seen the departures of Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, and now Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries is expected to join, challenging Alexander-Arnold for the right-back spot.
Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid from Liverpool last summer, had a mixed debut season, making 30 appearances across all competitions while battling injuries. He eventually cemented his place in the first team but now faces a battle with Dumfries for a starting role.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate is reportedly set to join Real Madrid this summer after failing to agree a new contract with the Reds. The Frenchman's arrival would further strengthen Madrid's defensive options.
Jose Mourinho is poised to return as manager, replacing Arbeloa, who was unable to turn around the club's fortunes. Real finished eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona, exited the Champions League quarter-finals to Bayern Munich, and were knocked out of the Spanish Cup by lower-league Albacete.
