Putin and Xi Discuss Organ Transplants and Immortality in Hot Mic Moment

Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping were caught on a live microphone discussing how organ transplants could lead to immortality during a military parade in Beijing. The private exchange was broadcast by Chinese state media as the two leaders walked with other foreign dignitaries in Tiananmen Square.

Putin's interpreter was heard saying: “Biotechnology is continuously developing. Human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become, and [you can] even achieve immortality.” Xi responded: “Some predict that in this century humans may live to 150 years old.”

Putin later confirmed to reporters that he had discussed increasing human life expectancy with Xi. Both leaders have changed their countries' laws to allow them to remain in power indefinitely. Putin has also established a research centre focused on combating ageing, while his daughter Maria Vorontsova has received grants for genetics research.

The conversation took place as China held its largest-ever military parade, showcasing tanks, drones, and nuclear-capable missiles. Xi used the event to declare that China is “never intimidated by any bullies”, in an apparent reference to Western nations.
