Prince William Admits Defeat in Bid to Win Son George's Football Allegiance Ahead of FA Cup Final

The Duke of Cambridge has conceded that his seven-year-old son, Prince George, is a committed Chelsea fan despite his own loyalty to Aston Villa. Speaking ahead of Saturday's FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Leicester City, William revealed he had tried but failed to steer George away from supporting the west London club.

William, who as FA President will present the trophy at Wembley, previously joked that he told George he could support anyone but Chelsea. 'Naturally he supports Chelsea,' the Duke said during a 2019 BBC special. He later admitted on the Peter Crouch Podcast that he was 'letting him choose his own way' and had come to terms with George's choice, especially under Frank Lampard's management.

The FA Cup Final, which kicks off at 5.15pm, will be attended by 21,000 spectators as part of a coronavirus pilot event. William missed last year's final due to restrictions but watched from Sandringham with guests. The match also promotes his Heads Up mental health campaign.

George, who reportedly enjoys kickabouts in the grounds of Kensington Palace, will be watching from home as his father hands the trophy to the winning team. Chelsea enter the final as slight favourites, seeking their fourth FA Cup in five years.
