The Prince and Princess of Wales have quietly honoured one of their most loyal staff members with the Royal Victorian Medal in silver. Lance Sergeant Scott Robin Bishop, who has served as the couple's driver for many years, received the award during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.
The medal was given in recognition of his 'services to the Prince and Princess of Wales,' highlighting his crucial behind-the-scenes role in ferrying the royals to official engagements and private family duties. Bishop was among recipients including actress Cynthia Erivo and comedian Matt Lucas.
The Royal Victorian Medal, established by Queen Victoria in 1896, is awarded at the monarch's personal discretion for loyal service to the sovereign or royal family. Unlike other honours, it is not subject to government advice, making it a direct expression of gratitude from the King.
Bishop was one of two staff members mentioned in King Charles's New Year Honours List, the other being the family's nanny, Maria Teresa Turrión Borrallo, who received the same medal in March. Maria has worked for William and Kate for 12 years, caring for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
In 2022, Kate's bodyguard, Sergeant Emma Probert, was also made a member of the Royal Victorian Order by Prince William. The protection officer has served the Princess since 2010 and has accompanied her on numerous royal outings.
