Pep Guardiola's Advice to Next Man City Boss: Be Yourself
Pep Guardiola Tells Next Man City Boss: Be Yourself

Pep Guardiola has offered a heartfelt piece of advice to whoever takes over as Manchester City manager following his emotional departure after a decade at the helm. The legendary boss, who leaves the Etihad Stadium with 20 trophies to his name, insists the next manager must stay true to their own identity rather than trying to replicate his methods.

Guardiola's Final Match and Emotional Farewell

Guardiola's tenure came to a close after Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, a match that saw the 55-year-old break down in tears as he addressed a packed Etihad Stadium. Surrounded by family, including his father Valenti Guardiola, and former players, he struggled to contain his emotions during a poignant farewell speech.

"I'm so nervous. Terrified. Why do you love me so much? Why do you do that to me?" Guardiola said, his voice cracking. "I never could imagine the amount of love. It's been incredible, an honour to be your manager. The reason I stayed here is that hopefully we provided you with unbelievable players."

He added: "Let me take a little break. Hopefully we (City) will continue to fight and give everything. The next years you all around the world, you will find me in the streets, and wherever you are as a City fan, come and hug me. I will need it. It has been a huge honour to represent this club. Every decision I took was for the best of this club. I love you so much."

In a moment of raw honesty, he concluded: "I will say it - it's been f*****g fun."

Advice for the Successor

With former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca emerging as the favourite to replace Guardiola, the outgoing boss stressed the importance of authenticity. "The next manager has to be themselves, that's the most important thing," Guardiola said. "The new manager, for the way they communicate, treat people, the way they're going to play, work - they have to be them. And this club is very, very good in many things. And the transitions, they always do really well. It will be good."

Guardiola's reign saw City dominate English football, winning multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups, and a Champions League. His final act as manager will be to lead an open-top bus parade through Manchester on Monday, where millions are expected to line the streets to bid farewell.

Tributes from Departing Players

Bernardo Silva, who is also leaving City this summer, paid a glowing tribute to Guardiola, calling him the greatest manager of all time. "Pep's the reason we won so much. He was at the wheel, making the decisions and creating this monster of a team, that was not only successful for one or two seasons, but for a very long time," Silva said. "That's the most difficult thing. He never stopped creating new things, evolving, not allowing oppositions to adapt. And on a personal level, he's my father in football. And I'm really grateful for everything he did for me. And I do believe he's the greatest manager ever."

City also paid lavish tributes to departing duo Bernardo Silva and John Stones, with a montage of Guardiola's best moments played on the big screens.
