Iran's Hossein Vafaei produced the biggest shock of this year's World Snooker Championship as he defeated world number one Judd Trump 13-12 in a final-frame decider. Vafaei, who had trailed 10-7 and 12-11, held his nerve to compile a break of 91 in the 25th frame and secure a place in the quarter-finals for the first time.
Ronnie O'Sullivan's bid for a record eighth Crucible title ended in dramatic fashion as John Higgins fought back from 9-4 down to win 13-12. Higgins fired three centuries in the final session to complete a memorable victory, while O'Sullivan admitted he had booked a flight home expecting to lose earlier.
O'Sullivan, who led 6-2 after the first session and 9-7 after the second, said he was 'shocked' to have taken the match to a decider. 'I haven't been in any big matches for two years. Playing the top boys in a real pressure situation now, I knew it was going to expose me,' he said. Higgins described the victory as 'up there' with the best of his career, adding: 'After the first two sessions, how I was only 9-7 behind, I'll never know.'
In another match, Mark Selby complained about the table conditions after losing 13-11 to China's Wu Yize. Selby said: 'I felt like the conditions were the worst I've experienced here at the world championship.'
