Royal author Omid Scobie has said the King's estrangement from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has now "warmed". The journalist, often dubbed the Sussexes' "mouthpiece" or "cheerleader" due to his favourable coverage of the couple, appeared in a new documentary about Harry and Meghan's return to Britain.
Harry & Meghan: The Return of the Prince, by ABC News Studios and part of the Impact x Nightline series, aired on Thursday on Disney+ and Hulu. It focuses on the couple's decision to move back to the UK six years after stepping away from their senior royal duties.
Scobie's verdict on the royal rift
In a clip seen by the Daily Mail, Mr Scobie said: "I think we've seen with Charles things have moved forward and that iciness has thawed out." He added: "There's a warmth there. With William, I don't see it will ever change."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to Britain last month. A few days after their arrival, Buckingham Palace issued a letter – the first official public clarification – to Government officials and the military regarding the couple's official status as non-working royals.
Palace letter and Meghan's friend's visit
The letter was issued by Buckingham Palace's most senior officer, the lord chamberlain, Richard Benyon. Part of it read: "In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests."
It comes just as Meghan's close friend from the US, Kelly McKee Zajfen, shared a new set of photographs from her trip to the UK to see her friend. Her post included photographs of the duke and duchess, as well as a sweet snap of Lilibet with Meghan's pal. Kelly has known Meghan for many years, and they have followed each other through many of the biggest moments of their lives.
