A horrifying incident unfolded in Westminster yesterday when a driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a crowded bus stop, leaving nine children injured.
Emergency services, including paramedics and police, rushed to the scene near Victoria Street, where shocked bystanders described scenes of chaos. Witnesses reported hearing screams as the car mounted the pavement and struck the group of youngsters.
Eyewitness Accounts
"It was terrifying," said one local shopkeeper. "The car just veered off the road and hit the bus stop. Children were screaming, and people ran to help."
Another witness added: "The driver seemed to lose control completely. It happened so fast – one second the kids were waiting for the bus, the next they were on the ground."
Emergency Response
London Ambulance Service confirmed that nine children were treated at the scene for injuries ranging from minor to serious. None are believed to be life-threatening.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Officers attended alongside other emergency services. The driver remained at the scene and is assisting with enquiries."
Road Safety Concerns
The accident has raised fresh concerns about road safety in the busy Westminster area, particularly near schools and transport hubs.
Local councillor Sarah Wilkinson said: "This is every parent's worst nightmare. We'll be reviewing safety measures urgently to prevent such tragedies in future."
The road remained closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene.
