Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade has been heavily linked with a late window exit from St James' Park, but sources close to the club insist there has been no enquiry from Serie A side Napoli for the Germany international after a story emerged of a loan bid.
Jaissle keen to keep Woltemade
Just 24 hours ago, Matthias Jaissle made it clear that he did not want to shift Woltemade and was keen to work with the ex-Stuttgart man and get through his issues in front of goal together.
Woltemade drew a blank against West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup second round tie on Tyneside last night in the 3-2 win. But he had a hand in the third goal and was spotted demanding a pass for the move that eventually resulted in Harvey Barnes converting.
Manager's backing
Jaissle said last night: "He was fighting. It's not easy as a single striker. He had a specific job today.
"Also out of possession he really tried his best, all the effort on the pitch. Unfortunately, he didn't score. I would have wished that for him because he shows a great commitment, not only in training but also today in the match."
Whether Newcastle will be open to a cash sale of the £69million record signing remains to be seen, but Jaissle stated last night he does not expect him to leave.
He said: "For all the players I expect them to stay as we talk today but you know football is quite complex and things can change from one day to the other."
Support for the striker
When asked if Woltemade's troubles are psychological, Jaissle said: "I am not a psychologist, I don't know. For us, it is clear that we will always support him.
"And beforehand I've said he is really committed, and if you see him in training, you will see that even more, a really hard worker.
"So we are really pleased it is just a matter of time before he scores."
