Netherlands Axe Van de Beek for World Cup as Angry Outcast 'Blasts' Van Gaal

Donny van de Beek will not be travelling to Qatar with the Netherlands this winter, as Louis van Gaal announced his 26-man World Cup squad on Friday. The Manchester United midfielder has struggled for form this season, failing to score or assist in seven appearances.

Another high-profile absentee is goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who has 63 caps and helped the Netherlands finish third at the 2014 World Cup. According to Dutch outlet AD, Cillessen was 'enraged' upon learning of his omission, having left Valencia to return to the Eredivisie with NEC in search of regular football to boost his World Cup chances.

Van Gaal has selected Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow, Heerenveen's Andries Noppert and Ajax's Remko Pasveer as his three goalkeepers. The squad includes Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk as captain, alongside Manchester City's Nathan Ake and Manchester United's Tyrell Malacia.

Barcelona duo Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay are included, while former Tottenham pair Steven Bergwijn and Vincent Janssen also make the cut. The full squad features defenders such as Matthijs de Ligt and Stefan de Vrij, midfielders including Davy Klaassen and Cody Gakpo, and forwards like Luuk de Jong and Wout Weghorst.
