Melania Trump has unveiled a new initiative aimed at improving career and education opportunities for children raised in the foster system. The first lady announced the programme, called 'Fostering the Future', during an event at the White House on Thursday.
The initiative was formalised by an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which brings together federal entities, non-profits, educational institutions and the private sector. It also establishes an online hub to help foster youth connect with key resources, including career guidance, educational support, and access to vouchers and grants.
Speaking from the East Room, Mrs Trump said the effort 'gives me tremendous pride' and described it as 'both empathetic and strategic'. She called on leadership from various organisations, including the private sector, to join her initiative. The programme is an extension of her 'Be Best' campaign from her husband's first term.
President Trump expressed delight at signing the order, noting that second lady Usha Vance was also heavily involved. 'We’re going to have absolutely incredible results,' he said. The federal agencies involved include the Departments of Health and Human Services, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, and the Office of Personnel Management.
