Manchester United are poised to announce their first summer signing earlier than expected, with a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson reportedly finalised. The move, worth £35 million plus £3.8 million in add-ons, was agreed before the World Cup and is set to be completed now that Brazil's tournament has ended.
Ederson, 24, is expected to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford after Brazil were eliminated by Norway in the group stage, failing to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1990. The Brazilian is scheduled to fly to England this week for a medical and to finalise the transfer.
The signing marks manager Michael Carrick's first new recruit, with Ederson seen as a dynamic addition to the midfield. Italy legend Andrea Pirlo praised the player, saying: 'He is a player good for the Premier League. He is a dynamic runner and intense, a player that can adapt really well there.'
United had initially targeted Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, but both joined Tottenham for a combined £185 million. The club is now exploring other options, including Chelsea's Andrey Santos, Bournemouth's Alex Scott, and Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, though the latter would cost at least €100 million (£85 million).
