Manchester United and Sunderland played out a goalless Premier League draw at the Stadium of Light, with the hosts earning a hard-fought point. United had already secured Champions League qualification, while Sunderland continued their recent run of draws.
First Half Action
Sunderland started brightly, with Chemsdine Talbi and Noah Sadiki creating early chances. Talbi curled an effort just wide, and Sadiki forced a low save from United goalkeeper Senne Lammens. United's first opportunity came through Bruno Fernandes, whose free-kick found Amad Diallo, but his shot flew wide.
The hosts had a penalty appeal dismissed after Enzo Le Fee's strike hit Amad's arm, and Lammens was called into action again to punch away a flicked effort from Lutsharel Geertruida. Joshua Zirkzee then headed narrowly over from Matheus Cunha's cross.
Second Half Chances
Sunderland continued to threaten after the break. Brian Brobbey fired wide, and Sadiki's effort was deflected behind. Noussair Mazraoui made a defensive header onto the roof of the net before Granit Xhaka's cross was collected by Lammens.
The Black Cats almost broke the deadlock when Le Fee played Brobbey through, but Lammens saved. Another chance saw Brobbey flick to Geertruida, whose effort hit the post. Le Fee's long-range shot then flew over the bar.
United pushed late on, with Fernandes' low strike deflected behind and Cunha's powerful effort saved by Robin Roefs. In the final seconds, Fernandes crossed to Bryan Mbuemo, but his attempt was blocked as the points were shared.
Team News
Sunderland made one change from their last match against Wolves, with Geertruida replacing the suspended Dan Ballard. United made five changes from their win over Liverpool, including a start for former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo.
The draw keeps United unbeaten in four league games, while Sunderland secured back-to-back draws with two matches remaining.
