Man United Agree £37m Deal for Éderson as Midfield Rebuild Begins

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Éderson for a fee that could rise to approximately £37 million, as the club begins its midfield rebuild ahead of a return to the Champions League.

The 26-year-old Brazilian is expected to be the first summer arrival at Old Trafford, with United aiming to provide manager Michael Carrick with sufficient depth to compete across four competitions. United's director of football, Jason Wilcox, has closely monitored Éderson's progress in Serie A and is understood to be a keen admirer.

United were eager to add quality in midfield following the departure of experienced Casemiro, and Éderson fits that profile. The club may also allow Manuel Ugarte, who has struggled since his move to United in 2024, to leave on loan or permanently.

Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle for Éderson, who has not been selected for the World Cup. He has spent four seasons at Atalanta, featuring in the Champions League for the last two campaigns and winning the Europa League in 2024.

Éderson is unlikely to be United's only midfield signing. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson is another option, though he is thought to favour a move to Manchester City, while Real Madrid's Aurélien Tchouaméni is also under consideration.
