Lorraine Kelly has criticised politicians, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, branding them as ‘sickening’ and ‘out of touch’. The TV presenter said she is tired of seeing MPs who are overly coached and refuse to engage in meaningful debate.
Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, the 64-year-old said: “I'm so sick of politicians, they have been coached so that they don't say anything. It's word salad and it doesn't mean anything at all. We never learn anything. It's so frustrating.”
Kelly recalled the early days of her career on TV-am in the 1980s, when politicians would engage in “ding dongs” that allowed viewers to make up their own minds. She said the current refusal to do so is “outrageous”.
Her comments come as Sky News presenter Kay Burley criticised Labour after a scheduled guest pulled out at the last minute. The party has also faced scrutiny over accepting freebies, including Taylor Swift tickets, with Starmer at the centre of the row.
