Liverpool will learn their Champions League league-phase opponents on Thursday, with the draw taking place in Monaco at 5pm. The Reds are among 29 teams that qualified automatically at the end of last season, and the final four spots in the 36-team field were filled on Wednesday night.
AEK Athens, Slovan Bratislava, Fenerbahce and Viking all won their qualifying play-off ties to complete the quota for this season's tournament. They joined Sabah, Bodo/Glimt and LASK, who had progressed on Tuesday night after defeating Hapoel Be'er Sheva, NEC and Celtic respectively.
Qualifying play-off results
Sabah advanced 6-4 on aggregate after a 5-2 win on the night, while Bodo/Glimt earned a 6-1 aggregate victory courtesy of a 3-0 win. Celtic surrendered a 4-0 aggregate lead to lose 5-1 after extra-time on the night to LASK, going out 5-4 on aggregate.
Wednesday's four ties were all level on aggregate heading into the second legs. AEK Athens progressed after a 4-0 win over Levski Sofia in the Greek capital, following a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Sofia. Slovan Bratislava booked their place after a 2-1 win at Celje, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
Fenerbahce emerged victorious 2-1 at Lyon after another 1-1 first-leg draw, while Viking rounded up the 36 after a 3-1 home win over Dinamo Zagreb, having fought out a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
Confirmed pots for the draw
With qualification complete, the identities of the teams in each of the four pots were confirmed. Bodo/Glimt's win on Tuesday night had already settled the composition of the pots, with the winners of Lyon and Fenerbahce completing pot three, and the final qualifiers going into pot four.
Liverpool are in pot one alongside Manchester City, Arsenal, Paris St-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Internazionale, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Pot two contains Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Sporting, Porto, Club Brugge, Real Betis, PSV Eindhoven, Aston Villa and Manchester United.
Pot three features Feyenoord, Lille, Bodo/Glimt, Napoli, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Shakhtar Donetsk, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. Pot four comprises Viking, Slovan Bratislava, Slavia Prague, VfB Stuttgart, LASK, AEK Athens, Como, Lens and Sabah.
Rules and ruled-out clashes
As in the last two seasons, each team will face eight different teams once, with four home matches and four away matches. They will face two sides from each of the four pots but cannot face a team from the same country as themselves.
That means Liverpool cannot be drawn against Manchester City, Arsenal, Aston Villa or Manchester United in the league phase. They can, however, meet Premier League opposition during the knockout stages.
The Reds also cannot host Real Madrid at Anfield, having welcomed the La Liga giants to Merseyside in each of the past two seasons due to UEFA regulations. They can meet at the Bernabeu if drawn together, a tie that would see Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate lock horns with their former team-mates.
Elsewhere, Luis Diaz and Curtis Jones could face the prospect of a reunion with their former clubs if the Reds are drawn against Bayern Munich or Internazionale.
