Jurgen Klopp has said a return to Liverpool is "theoretically possible" in the future, as he prepares to take charge of Germany for the first time. Klopp stepped down as Liverpool manager after nine years and has since taken on roles with Red Bull and the German national team.
Klopp's Liverpool pledge
When stepping down as Reds manager, Klopp stated that he would never manage another Premier League club, declaring that his bond with the supporters and the city meant he could never take a job with a domestic rival. He reaffirmed that if he were ever to coach again in England, it could only ever be a return to Anfield.
In comments on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Klopp said that a return to Liverpool is "theoretically possible" in the future. He emphasised that while he did not need to make a final lifetime decision immediately, his age allowed him the flexibility to re-evaluate things in a few years to see what the future brings.
Life after Liverpool
Klopp admitted he does not miss the daily grind of club management, specifically highlighting his lack of desire to stand in the rain for hours or conduct press conferences.
Following his departure from Merseyside, Klopp stepped away from the touchline to take on an executive advisory role as Red Bull's Global Head of Football. In that position, he travelled around the world to mentor coaches, oversee tactical philosophy and advise management across Red Bull's network of clubs, including RB Leipzig and the New York Red Bulls.
Germany role
Klopp has since taken over as Germany boss, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned after the country's last-32 exit at the World Cup. He has signed a contract through the 2030 World Cup and will take charge of the team for the first time against the Netherlands in the Nations League on Thursday night.
